Project work
During my time working with the web, I have worked on and been technical project lead on various sites. These sites have ranged from governmental, government authories and NHS online projects as well as sites for the public sector.
The theme across these sites have been for the sites to have good IA behind them, well designed, driven though a content management system and very highly accessible.
The content management system that drives these sites was developed with myself as the project leader and it delivers a simple get powerful system where users can create site structure and content of their site without futher help from the provider. The system also allows:
- User management and user access controls
- Content feed control, RSS and XML content imports
- RSS content outputs, to allow content to be collected by a different site
- Content exporting though content web-services
- Content entered through a WYSIWGY system
- Content can be published at a future date, updated and published through a selection of content version controls
- Old versions of a content item can be viewed, as well as the audit trail of which users made each of the modifications
- Content classification, to allow content to be themed together
- Classification grouping, to allow related content to be automatically aggregated on a page
- Site page and site strucutre control allowing pages and sections to be created, updated and removed
- A fully controlled forum system
- A fully controlled polls system
- Attachment system
- Bulk emailer to send information to subscribed user base
- Content alert system, to keep users up to date with content changes on their site
- Various front end site tools which can group, search and display different content information depending on the selected options in the admin system
- Fully indexed site, for powerful searches on their content and attachments held in the site
- Search content filtering based on classification grouping, with items in selected classification highlighted & zero results classifications suppressed
- Custom built widgets to allow special pieces of functionality to be presented on a webpage
- Auto PDF generation, to allow a page to be saved and downloaded as a PDF created at runtime
This results in a fully controllable website for clients, where they can modify their site without needing to come back to the tool provider, but still resulting in a highly accessible and easily usable website.
